Refunds due to a schedule change or flight cancellation

Last updated: July 2026

This applies when the airline cancels your flight, or significantly changes or delays it — not when you choose to cancel.

If an airline cancels your flight, or significantly changes or delays it, and you choose not to accept the alternative flight offered or a travel credit, you are entitled to a refund of the ticket price, minus the value of any portion of the trip already flown.

What counts as a significant change

  • A departure or arrival time that moves by three or more hours for a domestic flight, or six or more hours for an international flight
  • A change to your departure or arrival airport
  • An added connection
  • A downgrade in your class of service

In these situations

  • Refunds are issued to your original form of payment.
  • We will never substitute a voucher or travel credit for a refund you are owed unless you affirmatively choose to accept one.
  • If you do accept a credit instead, it will be valid for at least five years from issuance.
